Famtic began with a challenge in founder Chen Tao’s own backyard.
Away from work, Chen has always enjoyed caring for animals and plants—keeping fish, a dog and birds, and growing plants and vegetables at home. But his garden did not always thrive, and finding enough time to care for it was a challenge.
After nearly 20 years in consumer hardware, including 11 years in IoT hardware product leadership at Xiaomi, where he built its pet product line from the ground up, he began to ask a different question.
Could intelligent technology do more than tell us how to care for plants? Could it help carry out that care?
The idea was to bring AI and connected hardware together: to better understand plant needs and take on more of the routine work, while keeping people informed and in control.
Chen shared the idea with Wei Wei and Liu Shaolian. They recognized the same opportunity and brought their complementary expertise together to found Famtic.
Our ambition is not to remove people from gardening. It is to make room for the parts they enjoy most: watching something grow, picking the first ripe strawberry, and sharing what they have grown with the people they love.
Less routine care.
More of the joy of growing.
