A thoughtful start
with tomatoes.

Space, support and a simple observation routine.

Red and orange tomatoes ripening on the vine

Begin with the setting

Tomatoes need sun and warmth. Transplant after frost risk has passed and soil has warmed. Choose a plant that suits your available space.

Prepare before the plant grows

Put support in place at planting. Aim for consistent root-zone moisture rather than repeated swings between very wet and very dry.

Make it your own

Write down the variety, planting date and where the plant receives light. Compare your notes with the plant over time rather than copying a distant garden’s calendar.
